Dornbracht is a member of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für nachhaltiges Bauen (German Sustainable Building Council)

Iserlohn, 6 July 2023

For Dornbracht, sustainability means taking on ecological and social responsibility in equal measure: an approach that is also shared by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB), which promotes the conscious use of resources in the construction and real estate industry. The premium manufacturer from Iserlohn is using its new membership of the non-profit organisation to actively promote the ecological transformation of the industry in an active exchange with the community.

The Stuttgart-based association was founded in 2007 in response to the finite nature of resources and the increasingly tangible effects of climate change. In this context, sustainability-oriented construction not only means the use of recyclable building materials, but also the reduction of energy requirements and the conscious decision in favour of regional building materials. The DGNB promotes this type of construction in a variety of ways: for example, through the certification of buildings and interiors, or an online platform that lists numerous building products with information on their sustainability qualities. The basis for this is a holistic approach that includes ecological, economic and socio-cultural aspects.

This is an approach that Dornbracht also fully embraces: as a member, the company is now part of a strong community of over 2,000 organisations that represents the entire value chain of the construction and real estate industry. In the future, intensive exchange will enable industry-wide synergies, stimulate cooperation and share expertise.

The manufacturer Dornbracht is driving forward its own contribution to climate protection with numerous projects: for example, used fittings are reprocessed with Dornbracht ReCrafted and returned to the market cycle. This saves around 40 per cent in CO2 emissions per reconditioned fitting compared to a new product. With FlowReduce, the company has succeeded in significantly reducing the average water consumption of its shower products. Most of the portfolio now has a lower flow rate, with these variants saving up to 54 per cent water.

Since the company was founded in 1950, durability and timeless design have been the basic constants in the development and production of Dornbracht fittings. Another fundamental building block is the supply chain management, which is designed for short transport routes and is unique in the sanitary industry. Since the end of 2021, all the electricity at the Dornbracht headquarters has come exclusively from renewable sources. In 2022, the fittings manufacturer achieved recertification of the environmental management standard ISO 14001.
