Special prize in the ‘Sustainability’ category
This year, the Bund deutscher Innenarchitektinnen und Innenarchitekten (bdia) once again honoured the most innovative and outstanding products submitted by its sponsoring companies. In 2023, one of two special prizes in the ‘Sustainability’ category goes to Dornbracht ReCrafted.
The jury of experts found the Iserlohn-based company's pioneering concept and the remanufactured MEM fitting to be particularly sustainable: ‘Compared to a new product, a Dornbracht ReCrafted fitting saves around 40% of CO2 emissions,’ said the experts, explaining their decision. They added: ‘Many more approaches like this are needed to improve the longevity and reparability of products.’ One of six awards, the special prize was awarded as part of the ‘bdia ausgesucht!’ competition.
With Dornbracht ReCrafted, the company is leading the way in sustainability: it is the first manufacturer in the industry to take back its own products, reprocess them and return them to the market cycle. The offer is aimed at both end consumers and hotel operators. ‘By purchasing a ReCrafted fitting, our customers are giving a new home to timeless icons, while also acting in an environmentally conscious manner,’ says Dornbracht CEO Stefan Gesing, explaining his idea. He continues: ’The focus here is on maintaining the value of the products and minimising the use of resources. The aesthetic longevity of our design classics makes this possible in the first place.’
