Apartment in Aprica

HIGH ALTITUDE YACHTING DESIGN_landscape02

Yacht design in a winter sports resort

The Italian architecture studio m²atelier has extensively remodelled an apartment in Aprica in Lombardy. The highlight: As in yacht building, the limited space available was utilised in the most efficient way possible. Dornbracht supplied the fittings for the bathrooms and kitchens.

Gaining space where there isn’t any: The apartment is in the historic centre of Aprica, on the fifth floor of a typical residential building from the late 1960s. From here, it offers panoramic views of the wooded slopes and peaks of the Valtellina, supported by its skilfully designed outdoor terraces. The limited floor area of the apartment presented the interior designers from m²atelier with a challenging task. The aim was to gain space where there wasn’t any, and to divide up the rooms so that they appear larger. To realise this ambitious project, the studio chose an unusual approach. The decision was made to apply the design principles for yachts in a completely new context.

Perfectly tailored kitchen arrangement: The perfectly tailored kitchen is separated from the hallway by a wall with a double opening. Its design has the same minimalist aesthetic that characterises the entire apartment: The wood-effect bi-laminate fronts evoke the typical alpine chalet interior, the anthracite grey surfaces evoke associations with dark rock, and the mirrored design of the wall units expands the dimensions of the room. The Sync kitchen fitting from Dornbracht in Brushed Dark Platinum blends smoothly into the strictly geometric arrangement, but also sets a gentle accent with its dynamic shape.

Absolute precision in the bathrooms: The sleeping area consists of a larger and a smaller room, each with an adjoining bathroom. Everything here was constructed with precision down to the last millimetre. The master bedroom is designed around an anthracite-coloured theme that extends the main bathroom and offers space for a shower and a toilet. In the bathroom, these can be accessed through a mirrored sliding door that alternately closes the toilet and shower. Inside the shower is a rain shower from Dornbracht, fitted with Vaia control elements. A narrow window is also installed here, allowing a view into the bedroom and the adjoining terrace. The washbasin features Vaia in Brushed Dark Platinum: The elegant, dark finish of the fittings harmonises perfectly with the natural stone of the washbasin and blends seamlessly into the clear aesthetics of the bathroom architecture.
